If you do not change direction you may end up where you are heading. Lao-Tsu

Scott Peck defines love as "The will to extend one's self for the purpose of nurturing one's own or another's spiritual growth." Jacob Needleman makes a similar point when he says that, "it is clear that the essential expression of Christian love is, in its roots, the commandment to transmit the teaching". Needleman is not speaking here about transmitting a belief system, but something deeper and more profound. He continues:
To love my neighbor is to assist the arising and the unfolding in him of that which can harmonize the real elements of his nature ... But clearly the manifestation of Christian love, so defined, is possible only to the degree that a man has transmitted the truth to the whole of himself—the degree, that is to which he has realized in himself what was once called "self-mastery," the activation of the ruling principle, or soul, within oneself.
Here is a definition of love that gives it the central place in the Spiritual Journey that we know it must have. But here also is the greatest challenge we face on this journey.
Our Quest is first to continually "transmit the teaching" to the whole of ourselves, and then to transmit the teaching as we understand it, to others. No BS Spirituality is a comprehensive approach to spirituality that is both intellectually sound and practically helpful. All of our services are in response to this Quest to " extend one's self for the purpose of nurting one's own or another's spiritual growth." |
